In reply to Zorki1c's post on December 30, It would stop there and then a blue screen. Last time I waited 12 hours for it to do something and nothing. I turned the computer and went back to the previous update which always takes another 2 hours.
I did the "assistant" thing and it updated some security issues. But did the same thing, no error given, just a blue screen with nothing happening, even after I left it on over night thinking it needed more time. Very frustrated. I too turned off automatic updates.

However, that didn't help. Before I ask my question, let me review the history of how I installed Windows 10 Pro in case it helps resolving this issue.
In retrospect, that might have been a mistake. During all the subsequent Windows updates, Windows 10 version kept complaining that it's incompatible with SEP. I thought to myself, 'no problem I'll just uninstall SEP'. This seems to be a known problem with SEP and Win10 version I also went through the registry with regedit and removed anything that mentioned Symantec.
Nevertheless, Windows 10 update to still complains about SEP blocking the installation. I know I could completely blow away my existing Window10 pro install and start from scratch, but On the Windows Update page, simply click Check for updates. At this point we recommend waiting until the Fall Creators Update is rolled out to your device automatically. As an advanced user, you have two manual installation options. The recommended method is to utilize the Update Assistant. Alternatively, you can download and run the Media Creation Tool on the same site, which will help you perform a clean installation or reinstall of Windows We hope you enjoy the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update and the many new features it brings.
